Rayse Biggs

"I need a horn that can take a lot of abuse - from triple C to low F# - and can still maintain a full sound in the middle ranges. My Cannonball 789 RL Mad Meg Unfinished Trumpet takes it all. I love it!" ~ Rayse Biggs

Bio

Rayse Biggs is gifted with a unique quality and sound blended from musical greats and topped off with his own style. His musical career began on the family piano in the living room mimicking his older brother, Travis Biggs, and performing musical skits during family gatherings. His formal training began in the Detroit Public Schools playing the French horn, drums, string bass and tuba. After much begging in music class, he was finally allowed to play the trumpet in high school. He continued his formal training majoring in music at Oakland University.

Rayse, however had other ideas. By this time he had perfected his stage presence and was swinging in the Motown Review performing with Smokey Robinson and The Dramatics to name a few. He had learned jazz, and rhythm and blues styles from some of the best. Marcus Belgrave had taken him under his wing, as well as Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard and Donald Byrd. When not performing with them, Rayse was performing with his own band and he continues to do so. He also performed with such legends as Dizzie Gillespie and B.B. King. More recently he has performed and recorded with Fred Hammond, Alexander Zonjic, Kidd Rock an Kem. Even though Rayse has been busy performing, he has found time to nurture and tutor others who continue to excel musically.

Developing his musical writing and recording skills was honed with the help of Roy Brooks, Donald Walden. All of the songs on For the Love of It were written by Rayse. Creating music is a passion for him.

He is not only talented musically but has acted in Collision Course, Scrooge in the Hood and given an award winning performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

Rayse’s signature is to play the Flugle horn and trumpet simultaneously. Amazing what one man can do!
